Meet Laurie Kirk! Laurie is a writer/actor originally from Tampa, Florida and is now based in Pennsylvania in the Poconos!
What project are you currently working on? What is your role in the project?
I am writing a comedy mockumentary tv series for streaming. I plan to act in it as well. It’s a project from the heart about my family and the healing that can occur when you least expect it.
Do you have a favorite hat under the “creator” umbrella?
Right now I’m having tunnel vision with my writing of my tv series.
What were your earliest inspirations? How did you get started as a creator? I was always dreaming and creating in my head as a child to escape my loneliness and pain but I truly began creating after age 50. I finally became a professional actor and found out I was good at it. And now I’m writing and I’m good at that too. So I went from mom to multi-hyphenate in no time!
Whose work do you admire? Who are your dream collaborators? I wanna do a play with Kenneth Branagh, he always inspires me as an actor and director. And I adore Jessica Lange, she’s the MOST. And I’d do anything involving Star Trek. If you had to give one piece of career advice to your younger self, what would it be? “You’re doing the right thing by choosing to spend your youth as a mother. You’ll never regret it, too many women put it off and then regret it. And one day when your youngest is nearly grown, it’ll be YOUR time. And you’ll finally know what you want and you will dive headfirst into an amazing career doing things you only dreamed of as a child. So enjoy your 5 kids and give them all you have, life works in cycles and you’re doing great!!”
What’s your creative superpower?
I DO NOT QUIT.....EVER
